Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of respiratory rehabilitation exercise dominated by three-ball breathing trainers on pulmonary function, adverse emotions, and quality of life in patients with radiation-induced lung injury. Methods: A total of 80 patients who underwent chest radiotherapy in the Department of Oncology of Tongji Hospital from January 2022 to December 2022 were selected. Patients who underwent respiratory rehabilitation exercise dominated by three-ball breathing trainers served as the observation group, and those who underwent conventional respiratory rehabilitation exercise as the control group. Relevant data of the patients were collected before and after the intervention and analyzed statistically. Results: Compared to baseline, after 30 and 90 days of intervention, the respiratory rate and HAMA score in the observation group significantly decreased over time (P<0.05). Blood oxygen saturation, FEV1, FEV1/FVC ratio, PCS, MCS scores significantly increased over time (P<0.05). However, in the control group, apart from blood oxygen saturation, no significant differences were observed. After intervention, the observation group had significantly lower respiratory rate, HAMA score, HAMD score, and degree of radiation pneumonitis than in the control group (P<0.05). Additionally, blood oxygen saturation, FEV1/FVC ratio, PCS, and MCS scores were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Respiratory rehabilitation exercise dominated by three-ball breathing trainers can improve the pulmonary function of cancer patients, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve the quality of life of patients.
