Objective: To observe the effects of orthopedic massage (OM) muscle energy technique (MET) for motor function of upper limb in stroke patients on the basis of application of conventional rehabilitation. Methods: Forty-two stroke patients with the pain of shoulder were randomly divided into control group (n=21) and treatment group (n=21). The control group received conventional rehabilitation therapy, and the treatment group was given OM and MET additionally on the basis of conventional rehabilitation. The curative effectiveness was assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS), simplified Fugl-Meyer motor function score (FMA) upper limb, modified Barthel Index (MBI), and the acromion and humeral interval (AHI) before and 4 months after treatment. Results: Before and after 4 months, there were significant differences in VAS score, FMA score, MBI score and AHI in two groups (P<0.05). Those scores in the treatment group were higher than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The application of OM and MET on the basis of conventional rehabilitation could effectively alleviate cerebral shoulder pain of stroke patients, improving the upper limbs motor function and activities of daily living of patients. |
