Objective: To investigate the effects of kinesio taping with physical therapy on the lower limb motor function and walking ability in hemiplegic stroke patients. Methods: Sixty hemiplegic stroke patients were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group (n=30 each). Both groups were treated with routine rehabilitation, and the treatment group also undertook kinesio taping. All patients were assessed with the Fugl-Meyer lower limb assessment (FMA), functional ambulation category (FAC) classification and footprint analysis before and 8 weeks after treatment. Results: After 8-week treatment, the FMA scores of motor function, FAC of classification levels and the average step length, stride width, velocity of the affected side were significantly increased as compared with those before treatment in both two groups (P<0.05 for all), more significantly in treatment group than in control group (P<0.05 for all). Conclusions: Kinesio taping combined with routine rehabilitation training can distinctly improve the motor function of lower limbs and the walking ability in hemiplegic stroke patients. |
