Objective: To explore the effect of family-based modified constraint-induced movement therapy (mCIMT) on functional recovery of upper limb in patients after chronic cerebral apoplexy. Methods: Sixty-four patients from community rehabilitation agency were randomized into family-based mCIMT group (n=32) and control group (n=32). Motor function was assessed by the Fugl-Meyer scale upper limb (FMA-UE), and the ability of daily mobility was assessed by modified Barthel index (MBI). The effects were evaluated before, and immediate and 12 weeks after treatment. Results: Immediate and 12 weeks after treatment, the FMA-UE and MBI scores were significantly increased as compared with those before treatment in both two groups (P<0.05), and those in the family-based mCIMT group were significantly higher than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The family-based mCIMT is beneficial to the functional recovery of upper limb in cerebral apoplexy patients with hemiplegia. |
