Objective: To investigate the effects of Tai Chi exercise on cognition and health-related quality of life in Parkinson's disease patients with mild cognitive impairment. Methods: Fifty-two Parkinson's disease patients with mild cognitive impairment were randomly divided into intervention group (n=28) and control group (n=24). Both groups were given routine medication care and exercise advice, and the participants in intervention group received 16-week 24 Yang's Tai Chi exercise as well (5 times/week, 40 min/session). Before and after the study, Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Parkinson's disease questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) were recorded and assessed. Results: After 16 weeks of treatment, the score of MoCA in intervention group was significantly higher than before (P<0.05) and control group. The score of PDQ-39 in intervention group was significantly lower than before (P<0.05) and control group. Conclusion: Tai Chi exercise has positive effects on cognitive function recovery and health-related quality of life improvement in Parkinson's disease patients with mild cognitive impairment. |
