EN Abstract:
Objective: To chinesize both English version and classic Chinese version of the Illness Management and Recovery Scale (IMRS) with simplified Chinese. To evaluate the reliability and validity of the translated scale and make it applicable to patients with severe mental diseases in mainland China. Methods: Firstly, we translated the English version of IMRS (IMRS EV) into simplified Chinese version (IMRS CV) directly and translated the classical Chinese version of IMRS from Hong Kong into simplified Chinese at the same time. A draft of the IMRS CV was developed after combining different translations. Then, we invited three experienced psychiatrists to improve the draft. After that, 103 patients with schizophrenia in the ward were surveyed by the IMRS CV. We used exploratory factor analysis to determine the factors of IMRS CV. Reliability and validity were accessed using correlation analysis, Cronhach's α coefficient, and split half coefficient. Results: The IMRS CV was consisted of 6 factors with 64.47% variance explained. The Cronhach's α coefficient was 0.64 and the split half coefficient was 0.63 for IMRS CV. We observed high level of correlation between individual item of IMRS CV and factors, indicating good convergent validity and discriminant validity were also observed. Conclusion: IMRS CV was approved by all three psychiatrists and no unsolvable problem was met when surveying the patients. With good reliability and validity, the IMRS CV can be used in the Illness Management and Recovery program for patients with severe mental diseases in mainland China.
