EN Abstract:
Objective: To explore the effect of the presence and types of background music on the attention persistence in stroke patients. Methods: A total of 54 stroke patients who were hospitalized in the Department of Neurology of Beijing Bo’ai Hospital from April to September 2020 were selected, including 37 males and 17 females. The subjects were tested by the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) under the environmental conditions of no music, Chinese light music, and American rock music. Statistical analyses on accuracy rate, hit rate, and average reaction time were performed to compare the differences in CPT test indexes of stroke patients under three background music environmental conditions. Results: There were significant differences in the accuracy rate (P=0.002, P=0.037) and hit rate (P=0.002, P=0.048) under the environmental conditions of no music and Chinese light music, no music and American rock music. There were no significant differences in the accuracy rate and hit rate in Chinese light music and American rock music environmental conditions and the average reaction time under these three types of background music environmental conditions. Conclusion: Compared to no background music, background music can significantly improve the attention persistence of stroke patients and there is no difference in the effect of Chinese light music and American rock music environmental conditions on attention persistence.
