Assessment of communicative ability in patients with aphasia is a crucial prerequisite for rehabilitation research. However, traditional language tests often fail to accurately reflect real-world communicative competence. To review communication assessment tools for patients with aphasia, this paper reviews representative evaluation tools based on a functional communication approach, categorizing them into three types: communicative ability tests, observational profiles, and language analysis. Their advantages and limitations are analyzed. The study finds that current tools have shortcomings in aspects such as measuring non-verbal communication behaviors, distinguishing between different communication tools, and cultural adaptability. Future efforts should focus on improving theoretical foundations, enhancing the sensitivity of assessment tools, integrating artificial intelligence technologies, and developing localized evaluation instruments tailored for Chinese-speaking speakers, in order to provide a more comprehensive and scientific assessment of the communicative abilities of patients with aphasia and offer valuable references for clinical practice. |
