To conduct a scoping review on the application of aquatic exercise in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), aiming to provide references for clinical practice. Following the scoping review methodology, relevant studies were retrieved from Chinese and English databases, with the search period spanning from the establishment of the databases to October 10, 2024. The included literature was organized and analyzed. A total of 20 articles were included. The aquatic exercise programs for FMS patients primarily consisted of comprehensive training focusing on aerobic and resistance exercises, conducted at low to moderate intensity, with a frequency of 2-3 sessions per week, each lasting 45-60 min. The intervention outcomes demonstrated that aquatic exercise was highly safe and had positive effects on pain, quality of life, and physical function in FMS patients. Aquatic exercise intervention is feasible and effective for FMS patients. However, there is no consensus on the intervention protocols. Future research should further explore the long-term effects and exercise strategies of aquatic exercise, develop localized aquatic exercise programs, and investigate their applicability across different populations to promote widespread use among FMS patients. |
