| Neurogenic bladder (NB) is a common complication of spinal cord injury (SCI). Patients with NB often suffer from various urinary complications, such as urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence, hydronephrosis, etc., which may further lead to renal failure, cause re-hospitalization, increase the economic burden on patients, and even pose a threat to their life and health. The management principles of NB mainly include the following: reducing or avoiding complications such as urinary tract infections and stone formation, restoring normal bladder capacity, increasing bladder compliance, enabling normal bladder emptying, restoring low-pressure urine storage function, protecting the upper urinary tract, and alleviating urinary incontinence. The mechanism of NB after SCI is multifactorial and has multiple viewpoints. This article summarizes and concludes the pathogenesis and management methods of NB, enhancing our understanding of the mechanism and management of NB after SCI. It not only provides ideas for researchers but also improves the management level of NB for clinicians. |
