EN Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the therapeutic value and safety of Gusong pills combined with extracorporeal shock wave therapy for rehabilitation in postoperative patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures. Methods: Totally, 92 postoperative patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures were randomly assigned to control croup 1 (n=31), control group 2 (n=29), and the combination group (n=32). The control group 1 received conventional treatment plus the hospital preparation Gusong pill. The control group 2 received conventional treatment plus radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy. The combination group received conventional treatment, Gusong pill, and extracorporeal shock wave therapy. All three groups were treated for 8 weeks. The response rate, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score, and bone mineral density (BMD) values were compared before and after treatment among the groups. Results: After 8 weeks of treatment, the response rate in the combination group was superior to that in both control group 1 and control group 2, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, VAS and ODI scores significantly decreased in all three groups compared to pre-treatment levels (all P<0.01), while BMD values increased (all P<0.05). The combination group demonstrated significantly lower VAS and ODI scores and higher BMD values than the control group 1 and control group 2 (P<0.05 for all comparisons). There were no statistically significant differences in the incidence of adverse reactions among the three groups during the treatment period. Conclusion: The combination of Gusong pills and extracorporeal shock wave therapy effectively alleviates pain, improves functional disability and TCM-related symptoms, and increases BMD in postoperative patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures, with a high safety profile.
